High in the Dragonhame Mountains, a small dragon fidgeted. Mirendel balanced herself on one leg, moved pebbles around with her talons, and scratched shapes in the snow. A peak nearby started to shift, shaking off layers of ice and snow to reveal a much larger Platinum dragon. Matriarch Aesthyron lowered her head to stare at Mirendel, “You are supposed to be meditating.”

“I did. Done now. Tell me a story.”

“Ah, the impatience of youth. Very well. I shall share a piece of lore on why we value reflection and patience. Watch now. Kal Quas Wis Ort Por.” The great dragon moved a talon in casting, cutting a window into the Ethereal Void. The magic of the spell focused on the monuments and wayposts of the endlessness between worlds. Important features looked close enough to touch even though it would take a human lifetime to travel directly to them. “What do you see, little one?”

The baby dragon stared in awe, her eyes darting between the various mysteries and magics of the Void. “I see stars twinkling, red and blue.”

“That is the Xorinite Wisp.”

“A big scary flat stone with runes.”

“That is the Plane of the Shattered Obelisk.”

Mirendel focused on another object, “A pretty, shiny thread.”

“That is the spell the Britannians cast, their Silver Gate.”

“A little human in a floating house.”

“That is…That’s new…But it doesn’t matter. The Ethereal Void was our home for generations after we left the cradle of Sosaria for a time. While some dragons stayed behind as guides and protectors, most of our kind left this world to give the younger beings a chance to thrive and to protect them from our destructive conflicts with the Crimson dragons. We were arrogant then, impatient to stretch our wings and test our true power.”

The young dragon hopped onto a boulder and asked, “What happened next?”

Aesthyron composed her thoughts and began to recount the history, “It was during a conflict with the Crimson dragons, our first beyond the bonds of Sosaria. Our greatest wyrms facing three times their number, unleashing unrestrained dragon fire and spells that would have destroyed entire cities or forests on this world. Returning in victory and filled with foolish pride, they found all of their egg caches raided, and an entire generation of kin stolen.”

“The theft drove all into a fury, and assuming duplicity by the Crimsons, our kind prepared to escalate the war against them. If not for a few level heads on both sides, we would have wiped out our misguided cousins, never knowing the truth. The Crimsons had also been raided, and an unseen third party has stolen their eggs as well.”

The Matriarch continued, “The greatest threats you cannot always see directly. It took us much to learn who had stolen our eggs. They were called many things – world-builders, oppressors, raiders, thieves, but we always called them what they called themselves – the Kotl. They had the means to travel easily through the Void, and they liked to take things that were not theirs. As long as this was true, our eggs were threatened.”

“The magic that allowed the Kotl to raid worlds across the Void also made their home, Eodon, inaccessible and unmappable. We could not strike them directly, but we could send a message.”

“In secret, we shared our plan with the Crimsons, and for one brief moment in untold generations, we were united again. With the next cycle of eggs, we made a big show of meeting the other dragons on the field of battle, but we left a majority of our forces guarding our eggs, hidden by illusion.”

“Thieves are driven by greed, and the Kotl came as we expected. We then turned our fury against them: a storm of flame, tooth, and claw. We left a handful alive, enough to tell the Kotl civilization what had happened. That lesson kept the Kotl away. Still, never again did we leave our eggs unguarded. Even a dragon can learn humility.”

After the story ended, Mirendel thought for a moment before asking her question, “What happened to the missing eggs?”

“Those eggs were forever lost to us, but I often wonder what became of our stolen kin.”

*****

Krett was fascinated by the lost Kotl civilization and their tinkering. The tunnels of their ancient city were a vast collection of mysterious contraptions. Sadly, most of them were smashed and broken, but Krett believed he could learn much by repairing them. The one he was currently fixing seemed like a strange combination of a stasis chamber and an egg incubator. He hurried to replace the activation mechanism so he could learn exactly what it did.

The chamber slowly opened, draining away a silvery liquid metal to reveal several large eggs. Suddenly, the surface grew bright and warm as midday, and golem limbs started to turn the eggs. Krett was watching and taking notes, when he heard a great rumble. Turning around, he saw dozens of other chambers were also coming alive, each with their own collections of eggs.

“I think now would be a good time to return to Minoc.”

Publish 97 & 20th Anniversary Party

Greetings Everyone,

We are so pleased with the feedback everyone has given us to make Publish 97 great.  I know many of you are really excited and can't wait to get it on your shard.  We will be publishing World Wide on April 27th.

We have started working on Publish 98 so keep reading for some exciting details as to what is coming.

We are still planning the 20th anniversary party, finding the right bakery is not as easy as it sounds *grins*, and yes we will have gluten free cupcakes for you guys that desire those.

We had a great taste testing of the food for the BBQ the other day, you guys are going to love this!  It will consist of beef brisket, beef ribs, pulled pork, and chicken.  We will also have vegetarian options available.

We currently have 200 people signed up to attend with over 50 people on the waiting list.  If you are unable to come and need to cancel please email me so I can notify someone on the waiting list.  It would be greatly appreciated.

For those that cannot attend the party, I do not want to leave you out of everything, so we are going to put a raffle stone on TC1 that lets you sign up for a chance to win a Castle!  Yes that is correct! For the anniversary I will be giving out 6 castles!  Three in game via the TC1 raffle stone and three at the Party!  You will be notified via email so you can tell me what shard you would like the castle placed.  We will update in a future newsletter when the raffel stone is available on TC1.  Good luck to everyone!

Finally, we've received some great submissions of new castle designs!  There is so much interest in this promotion that we are going to be putting together a tool that allows players to mock-up larger house designs on TC1.  Keep an eye on future newsletters as we release this feature in a future publish.

See you in Britannia,

Looking Ahead to Publish 98

We have been incredibly fortunate to have so many players show up on TC1 to test Animal Training and all the pet features!  While Bleak has been busy iterating over that feedback and polishing features to get ready for World Wide release later this week, Kyronix has been busy working on Publish 98.  Publish 98 brings us into the busiest development cycle of the year as we focus on UO's anniversary, as well as our Halloween & Fall content.

Beginning later this Summer and into the early Fall, we will be starting a 20th Anniversary event arc.  We are still in the early stages of planning the details, but have taken note of all the event-related suggestions that have come up from our Meet & Greets.  You can definitely expect to see Britannia's cities once again assaulted by the forces of darkness and epic battles as Britannian's are once again called upon to valiantly defend their homeland.  Our goal with the arc is to keep the experience fresh without lengthy lulls in the action.  We'll also be targeting a variety of mechanics to include both solo and group activities.

Almost immediately following the conclusion of the event arc, Fall will be upon us which means 20th Anniversary Rewards to thank everyone for achieving this major milestone in gaming history!  Looking to Halloween we are reactivating old favorites like bone-collecting, complete with new styles of bones as well as new Trick or Treating loot, the next iteration of the Treasures of Halloween, new trophies for the Huntmaster's Challenge, and new Horn of Plenty items.

In between catching a little sun this summer we'll be busy so keep an eye on future newsletters and UO.com for updates!

Question & Answer Corner

1. Can you provide crystal portals to other areas like you did in the Valley of Eodon?

Yes, we will be providing a reward item like this in the Treasures of Halloween event this coming Halloween.

2.  Can we get some new UO themed wallpapers?

Yes, we can put new wallpapers for download on UO.com

3 .  Can we get additional costumes?

Yes, we can add additional costumes as rewards for future content.

4.  Can we have additional ways to obtain black and white seeds?

These are the result of rare mutations from cross-pollination during gardening and have no plans to change that.

5.  Can we get some new VvV rewards?

We are in the early stages of planning another pass at VvV to address some of the concerns with its original release.  Our goal with the first release of VvV was to fix the major concerns with flagging that were related to factions, and create a foundation we can build off.  We hope to continue to build on that foundation and implement some of the features and answer some of the feedback we've received in the time VvV has been live.

6.  What is the best way to give feedback?

Great question!  You can email your feedback, or you can visit our bi-weekly Meet & Greets that are announced on UO.com & in-game town criers.  You can also visit us on TC1 during our testing releases if you want to talk about a feature or just say Hi!

Customer Service

2. All Sovereigns purchased from Origin have to be entered on the Account Management page.  You can not enter these in game.

3. Anyone that is trying to reopen an account please make sure you send all the information to support@ultimaonline.com so we can have a record of this.  In the original request to support if you do not know your secret word please ask for a hint.  Give them all the information to identify the account as yours so there will not be a lot of delays.

4.  Anyone that does not get their codes from Origin please follow this link to resolve the issue..

5.  If you have any in game questions or issues please either page in game or email support@ultimaonline.com.

6.  For any feedback to content put in game please send it to UO@broadsword.com.

7.  Regarding Origin orders, codes, and third party resellers.

Recently some of the player base may have noticed that an Origin store purchase they have made did not arrive or complete as expected. A confirmation or code email has not been received and you are wondering what may have occurred with your order. The Origin store enacts reviews on all transactions to safeguard against fraudulent purchases, and these reviews may take up to 72 hours. Unfortunately our Billing department is not able to expedite or circumvent this process, however players who have questions or concerns regarding a store purchase can contact Origin support for assistance using the below link:

http://help.ea.com/en/contact-us/new/

When prompted for a product, choose Origin. Next choose your platform, and select ‘Orders’ as the topic. You can further specify your issue in the subsequent fields before speaking with an agent.

We would also like to reiterate that the Origin store is the only guaranteed provider of codes for Ultima Online. The validity of a code purchased from a third-party seller (be it a friend, in-game acquaintance, or recommended site) cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore, any codes we find to have be fraudulently obtained will be disabled and an account that applies any of these codes will have that code removed from said account. This can result in the loss of gametime, character slots, expansion access, Sovereigns (and the items purchased with them), in-game items and more. Please be advised that we cannot assist with any issues stemming from codes purchased via non-Origin means; you will be required to contact the vendor from which you purchased the code for further assistance.
