BAF Chain of Command/List of Duties/Who to Go To

Grand Marshal of Virtue
The Grand Marshal is the only BAF official considered a member of the High Council, in his BAF role. (Others might have dual BAF and High Council roles, but the Grand Marshal is the only one considered a Member of the High Council by virtue of his BAF position.)

The Grand Marshal, in addition to duties outlined in the any relevant charters or documents, will be directly in charge of:

  • Anything related to activities of the Crown (such as Royal Spy or Royal Guard missions);
  • Anything that has to do with dealing with other officials in the civilian government (such as the Justicar or the Chancellor);
  • Anything which deals with fighting monsters;
  • Anything the Grand Marshal specifically designates or so chooses (such choice supersedes anything in this document).

If you aren't sure who to go to for something, come to the Grand Marshal.

The Grand Marshal can take direct command of any BAF activity at any time, or appoint a Field Marshal in his/her stead.

At the time of writing the Grand Marshal is Galen Knighthawke (guild Legacy of the Fallen).

Field Marshal for Enemies of the State and Criminal Activity
This position is designated by the Grand Marshal to have field command in all instances where the BAF finds itself in combat with other people (Enemies of the State or potential Enemies of the State who are not also being dealt with by the Crown, criminals, or the like), and over all training activities for such combat, including but not limited to the weekly or semi-weekly practice sessions.

The Field Marshal for Enemies of the State shall report to the Grand Marshal not less than once every two weeks on the Sunday before a Monday High Council meeting, and as seems necessary.

At the time of writing the Field Marshal for Enemies of the State is Duke Polynikes of Yew (guild Yew Militia).

Field Marshal for Foreign Affairs
The Member of the High Council designated by the High Council as Minister of Foreign Affairs or an equivalent position shall also be the BAF Field Marshal for Foreign Relations, who shall counsel the Grand Marshal on all matters related to foreign governments and have field command on all matters related to foreign governments. If there is no Minister of Foreign Affairs or the Minister of Foreign Affairs shall decline to be the Field Marshal for Foreign Affairs, the Grand Marshal shall designate one where practicable.

The Field Marshal for Foreign Affairs shall report to the Grand Marshal not less than once every two weeks on the Sunday before a Monday High Council meeting, and as seems necessary.

At the time of writing the Field Marshal for Foreign Affairs is Malag-Aste of Newcastle (guild Royal Knights of Virtue).

Field Marshal for Investigations
The Field Marshal for Investigations is charged with investigating criminal activity. This person is gone to when a crime has occurred and the fact pattern is not clear, where the matter has an obvious national or international component, and/or where local officials have not claimed jurisdiction.

The Field Marshal for Investigations shall report to the Grand Marshal not less than once every two weeks on the Sunday before a Monday High Council meeting, and as seems necessary.

At the time of writing the Field Marshal for Investigations shall be Seit VanTulsmit (guild Royal Britannian Kilted Police).

Other Field Marshals
Every Guild Master of a BAF Alliance guild has the BAF rank of Field Marshal. They have the same authority over their guilds that they would have if that guild weren't affiliated with the BAF at all, and in the absence of other leadership can take command of other BAF units.

When there is an ongoing situation involving their guilds, or areas of influence an interest, or the like, the other Field Marshals shall report to the Grand Marshal not less than once every two weeks on the Sunday before a Monday High Council meeting, and as seems necessary. The Field Marshals shall also report to the Grand Marshal anything of potential significance, as soon as is practicable upon their occurrence.

Members of the High Council
Members of the High Council should be shown respect but are not in the BAF chain of command.

Officials of the Crown
This is a monarchy and by definition an official of the Crown has jurisdiction over any of us at any time and for any reason. However, use your judgment. There are more people who will claim to work for the Crown than who actually do. If the Grand Marshal or a Field Marshal is on the field, and you aren't sure, follow his or her lead. If you are approached by an agent of the Crown and something doesn't feel right, get out of the situation and inform the Grand Marshal, directly and immediately.
